Could I have TSS (toxic shock syndrome)?!
Question: Could I have TSS (toxic shock syndrome)?
Answers:
TSS doesn't just occur from leaving a tampon in for over 12 hours - this is myth - it can occur no matter how long you leave a tampon in for, it's just that the risks increase the longer you leave a tampon as the longer you're giving bacteria to multiply and the longer you're preventing your vagina from cleaning itself.
You need to change your tampon after 4-6 hours (12 hours is too long).
Symptoms:
Symptoms of TSS occur suddenly, usually during or just after a menstrual period. The more common symptoms include a high fever (over 102° F.), vomiting, diarrhea, a sunburn-like rash, and drop in blood pressure. Muscular aches and pains, headaches, sore throat, blood shot eyes, confusion, and peeling of the skin on the palms and soles may also appear. These symptoms are important and require prompt medical attention.
