Possible surgery mistake; what could have caused it?!
Question: Possible surgery mistake; what could have caused it?
My dad has a friend who had some sort of cancer as a child (I'm not exactly sure what kind, but I think it may have been brain cancer). He had to have surgery to get rid of the cancer (this was probably 40 - 50 years ago). Ever since his surgery, this man only sweats on one side of his body (I can't remember which side). What could have caused this?
Answers:
Sweating is controlled from a center in the preoptic and anterior regions of the brain's hypothalamus, where thermosensitive neurons are located.
They may have damaged these nerves cutting the connection of these nerves with the body (for only one side). Or more likely, if this region was close to the tumour, they have removed it for his own good..
its strange isn,t it? Do a little experiment and put a hot water bottle under your feet. Is it ONLY your feet that sweats? Can you tell that sweating is not controlled locally?
