Swollen tonsils? [Really painful!!]?!

Question: Swollen tonsils!? [Really painful!!]!?
Since June '08, I've developed these swollen tonsils that appear 1-2 times EACH MONTH!. They get swollen to the point where it hurts to swallow my own spit!. It feels like fire running down my throat!. I've tried everything! The whole warm water & salt gargle, the salt & lemon thing, hot tea!.!.!.etc!. I've constantly been to doctors, but all they tell me is a cold!. Each and every time!.
I know this is no cold, but they just tell me that they know what they're doing because they're doctors!. [They probably don't take me seriously because I'm only 17]

I'm in excruciating pain right now and all I have is my mom's old prescription when she had what I had not too long ago!. I wonder if it's safe for me to take it!? [It's called "Cyclobenzaprine"]
Also can anyone tell me what exactly should I do with my problem!? (And possibly tell me what I have!? ;])Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It sounds like you have reoccurring tonsillitis, and yes, it does suck!. I had it regularly (about a half dozen times a year) until I finally had my tonsils out when I was 25!. They would swell up (to the point they were practically touching each other), turn red and irritated, and actually had scars on them from frequent infections!. See if your primary care physician can refer you to an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doc!. These are the guys that do tonsillectomies and obviously are much more familiar with tonsils than someone else who is going to tell you that you are having a cold twice a month (ridiculous)!. Also, keep going back to the same doctor (rather than shopping around), that way they'll have a record of the frequency that you have "colds!." Then maybe they'll notice something's not right!.

I'm not sure about the prescription, but if it's not prescribed to you and your mom's not a doctor, you really shouldn't take it (in case it shouldn't be taken with other meds you're on, allergies, etc)!. It could also make your situation worse!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
