The answer is those above but mainly because of what they mix the powder with!.
We take clean drinking water for granted, but it is a scarce commodity in many countries!. Their water is often contaminated!.
Small babies are particularly vulnerable to gastroenteritis and often die from it in these countries!.
Also, they do not get any vital immunity to common diseases that is provided by mothers breast milk!.
In Papua New Guinea, mothers with HIV are still encouraged to breastfeed, because despite the risk of contracting the virus, it is still safer than bottle feeds!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

if it is manufactured in a developing country there is a high chance of contamination or bootleg products!. Big story the last couple weeks about children in China getting ill and dying from contaminated formula!. And China is not a developing country!. I am not sure that a lot of American made formulas are exported to other countries, powders require clean water to mix them, ready to feed formulas have a relatively short shelf live and I am sure the profit margin is not as high as it is in America!. Check out the price of formula!.!.around $80 for a case of 6/12 oz cans where I live, higher in other parts of the countryWww@Answer-Health@Com

In the US infant formulas must be approved by the food and drug administration (FDA) for legal distribution!. In developing countries there is no or little oversight or the formula could be some bathtub blend sold off a cart pulled by a goat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
