I have a question about riding in Ambulances?!

Question: I have a question about riding in Ambulances!?
Why do you have to be over 18 to ride with someone to the hospital!? Because when my mom had her stroke i was 14!. I know i was young but i was upset and i wanted to go with her to the hospital!. They told me sorry but i needed to be 18!. So my aunt came and picked me up and we went to the hospital!. But why do they do that!? What happens to the kids who are living with their mom or someone by themselves and they end up going to the hospital!? Because they can't stay home alone if they are young!. So where do they go!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I do not know what the rules are where you live, but I do know that here we would have had you come along though in the front seat!.

If a patient is stable, the family member is being reasonable and won't get in our way and we don't have other crews in our car for extra hands, we allow them to ride in the back!. If there is a lot going on, we let them sit in the front!. We can also only take one person!.

Unless there are policies that say you can not ride with them, I suspect that your mom was not stable or that they did not want to have to worry about a 14 year old in an emotional state!.

You can call your local ambulance service head office and ask what the policy is about family riding with the patient to the hospital!. If it wasn't true that you have to be 18, you can file a complaint!.

If there is a small child or more young children that are not safe on their own, we have the police attend to deal with that matter!. They will stay with the children until alternate care can be found for them!. In some cases a child protection agency needs to be called because there are no family or friends that can take care of the child(ren) while the patient is in care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My guess is that they would not risk you seeing them do something gruesome if they were trying to keep your Mum alive!.

They would have needed to act fast and without having to think of what you could handle!. Given the choice I'm sure your Mum would NOT have wanted you traumatised by such a sight, and would not have wanted the Ambulance Crew to risk such trauma!. Sadly that has left you with other scars, but they might heal quicker!.

I've looked after neighbours kids in an emergency, even though we didn't really know them at the time!. There is usually someone who will look after a child, who is known to that child, for the few hours until a family member or Social Services are in place!.

At your age each extra year influences your maturity much more than when you get older!. Each year is proportionally a far greater chunk of your life!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
