Science has never come up with a completely satisfactory answer for that question!. The most popular theory though is that yawning stems back from our caveman days, when it was a tribal thing!. Perhaps the baring of the teeth was a defensive display to indicate that the yawner was still alert incase of attack, or it may have been a signal to the rest of the tribe that it was time to sleep!. This theory goes some way to explain why yawning is 'contagious' - as in, if you see somebody yawn, you will usually get an urge to yawn too!. Such actions may have strengthed the tribe's group mentality!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
