Question: What was the original reason to add nicotine to cigarettes!?

@Stephen: smoking common cigarettes IS more dangerous to your lungs than smoking "roll your own" cigarettes, cigars and pipes (including hookahs), not because of the nicotine content, but because of the way the the smoke is inhaled!. You may find the links below interesting!. (By the way, cigars and pipes are relatively harmless to your lungs, but highly dangerous to your mouth, tongue and lips; can't have a vice without the price)

I'm not sure if I understand your question!. As far as I know, It's impossible to make cigarettes (or any other Tobacco product, for that matter) without nicotine, simply because it is already present in the Tobacco plant's leaves, who use it as a naturally evolved defence against insects and herbivores!.

Or do you mean that nicotine was artificially added to cigarettes, to boost its natural concentration!? I never heard about this; other aditives, yes, but not nicotine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
