I've had it in since Febuary and now it's getting really hot outside and I really want to go in a pool!. I have six pins!. Do you think I could do this!? I know, I know, I should ask my doctor, and I did!. I put a call into him, but he never called back!. So here I am, asking strangers for advice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
With an external fixator you have to be extremely careful about infections on your pinholes!. It's simply not worth what you may have to go thru if one of them becomes infected!. I definitely would not go into a pool!. If you choose to get in the pool anyways, be concerned if you feel lousy and run a fever!. If this happens, get to a doctor immediately and take the antibiotics they prescribe!. An infection from a pinhole can be deadly!. I feel for you!.!.!.good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I emphatically would not until you get an OK from your Doc!. I did something like that by swimming in what I thought was a clean chlorinated pool with a serious burn on my arm!.!.!.!.3 days later I had terrible infection that caused extra scarring and put my system in big time distress!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NO!
I broke my femur four years ago!. And while they put a rod in instead of the fixator, I've seen enough of them in my life to know that a pool is about the last place you want to go!. If that became infected you could have some serious problems!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wood imagine that the pins are stainless steel!. How ever any time you have some thing that penetrates the skin most doctors say keep it dry!. You have to ask your self one question is it worth the risk to get it infected!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

call again!. don't go swimming until you get an answer from a REAL doctor!. why has it been so long!?

i read your details!. i would just wait the few more weeks until the doctor clears you!. good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I sure wouldn't risk the infection you could get!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
