Yes it is safe!. Your mother is probably getting a endoscopy or a gastroscopy which involves a little camera device being put down her throat!. The throat needs to be numbed so she does not gag or choke of the device!. Oral Anesthetic is a standard in these types of procedures!. There of course is a small risk (ive read a 0!.01% risk that something could go wrong)
