That iron/metallic taste is from the tiny capillaries in your throat rupturing. When your blood is moving through you faster than you're used to and you're breathing a lot harder, your capillaries can bust and put that lovely taste in your mouth.
It's good for your physical fitness to push your body, and this is a fairly common occurance for many hard core athletes...nothing to worry about. If you drink more water and warm yourself up, chances are you won't experience this anymore.
