I have a serious health question about doctors ethics and my condition.?!

Question: I have been losing weight 14 pounds to be exact and have a weak appitete. I quit smoking and drinking 10 months ago and have been checked with x rays 2 blood test cbc and comphrehensive everything is good. I told the doctor im still worried and would like to get my gallbladder tested for gall stones and maybe get my pancreas and kidneys cheked out.
I give him credit he isnt bad and has ordered a couple test for me in the past. The main problem is i just went today he gave me a speech about do no harm meaning it would do more harm to test it then leave it be becasuse its probably nothing.
You see Im really smart And i dont discredit his knowledge I just think he has some kind of budget wont run an ultrasound to test for stones at the very least what is the deal. My kidney's were fine 3 months prior when he took a complete metabolic panel so he thinks their still fine that makes sense. But I have been throwing up bile lost weight 14 pounds and feel weak he did nothing told me to go?

We all know when something just isn't right, when our mind and bodies aren't in sync. Docters need to listen more, and have a good bedside manor, and should really do more testing, instead of using process of elimination! I'm not talking about all docters, because their are some really fine docters out there, and you are real lucky to fall upon one. I have had numerous kidney stones, ever since I can remember! I too, was very, very weak, and throwing up bile because the pain was too intense. Every avenue I took, going to this docter, and that one, I could get no help!!. I knew something was terribly wrong with me. All I wanted to do was sleep, it became a great escape for me. All the docters I went to told me that I was depressed, that I needed to get a job, and even told me I was lazy, and put me on prozac, zoloft and numerous other antidepressents. Still, I knew there was something terribly wrong with me, I didn't feel good, ever! I closed my life off, didn't go to family dinners, didn't see my friends, made sure to have no social life..all i wanted to do was sleep! It wasn't until my left kidney was so impacted with kidney stone, and no docter would opperate because of my insurance, that one stepped in, and told me that he would take care of me for free because he didn't take the insurance that I had. I explained how I felt year after year, and the experiences I had with all the other quack docters. He told me he was going to run a test on me, but told me I probably didn't have what he was testing me for. He came back, and told me I had a life threatening disease, and I would have to get a bracelet. He told me that I have Addisons disease. I have no adrenalen, because my adrenal glands are destroyed, and I have to take steriods the rest of my life or I shall die!! I suffered with this disease for many years, because the docters were too busy with the people with the good insurance! All it took was a great docter whom listened, and who really cared about humanity, and one simple test!! Don't give up! I do think you should find a few more docters, and explain how you feel. You know that something just isn't right. I hope you find a docter just like the one, whom was loving enough to help me out. I will forever be grateful for him!! Good, good luck to you. I hope you will be feeling better, and that you find a great docter! They really are out there! It just takes time, and patience, and alot of shuffling around to find the right one!!(good insurance would help too!!)

Get a second opinion from a different Dr.

get a second opinion. if not, then tell him you understand what he's telling you, but none the less, you would like to have those tests done. its your body. good luck

It's possible that he's looked at all of the tests you've had and thought 'hypochondriac', without actually listening to you properly. I know I felt like a hypochondriac while I was waiting for a diagnosis each time I went to my Doctor and said "is there any possibility it could be this?". I didn't want any of those things, I just wanted a diagnosis, and I'm not sure Drs realise that patients who have been suffering for a long time don't want some nasty illness, they just want an answer.

Have you tried playing by your Dr's rules, and just going in, giving him your symptoms and letting him recommend? Chances are he resents the fact that you're trying to self-diagnose as it makes him feel like you only need him as the guy to arrange the tests you decide you need. Drs can get really funny when they think they're losing the power, and he might be taking it out on you by denying you tests that would only serve to put your mind at rest. But this is wrong - anything he can do to comfort or appease a distressed patient should be done.

So, you could try playing it a bit more submissively (or passive aggressive if you prefer), or you could seek a second opinion. Either way, I'd suggest you try asking the Dr what could be wrong rather than asking for these scans outright - you might find that pandering to their egos will get a better result than telling them what you want.

Good luck xx

Get another opinion. I sought many opinions from doctors, telling them something was wrong. They all told me it was in my head. It turned out I have a brain tumor. Yep, it's ALL in my HEAD. Look up Addison's disease too, ok? Simple Cortisol test for that disease. Good luck to you, and GET ANOTHER OPINION!
