I don't know what is wrong with me?!

Question: Firstly, let me say that I have terrible anxiety. Lately I've had trouble breathing. It feels as if something is trying to block me from breathing, even though I can breathe fine. Almost like my throat might close up, but it doesn't, and I can breathe.

It's really been bothering. I went to the doctor, and she said it's allergies. She gave me medicine for it, and I'm still having this problem.

It usually only happens when I start thinking about it. Sometimes when I'm distracted, it doesn't happen. So I don't know if it's anxiety or just all in my head. It's not an anxiety attack, it's more just like symptoms of anxiety.

What should I do when it happens, and how can I just stop worrying about it? I think it I would just stop thinking about it, it would go away.

I have the same problem, and though I can't give you a good way to stop it, I can sympathize and tell you that you're not alone. It is a form of anxiety and can be a panic attack. For me, the only thing that helps is to take my mind off of it with another activity. TRYING to do something to make it stop does not help. This just makes it worse, because you're still thinking about it. Sometimes I'll start doing something else and then realize its gone away, which on occasion will make it start happening again... Its a hard cycle and I really feel for you. My doctor prescribed Xanax which helps when I'm having a big panic attack. Otherwise the best I can suggest is busy yourself with other things, especially ones that make you happy.

I think you're having a panic attack, you sond really stressed out. Try doing yoga and drinking green tea.

I sometimes suffer from anxiety, and find that the following methods help:
-Counting from 1 to 30 in my head
- Breathing in a paper bag
- Totally cearing my mind and thinking purely of something I love; i.e ice-cream
- Saying to myself 'theres nothing wrong with me, everything fine'

These may seem a bit weird to do, but they help.

i say do some excercise in the morning try it for sometime it'll get you relaxed =)

or it might be in your head if you say it only happens when you think about it

hope this helps=)

Your answer is your last sentence. If you stop thinking about it it will go away. I find that whan I worry or have anxiety about something, if I think about the worst possible outcome and then ask if I can deal with that. So ask your self. if your throat closes up do to anxiety, what will happen? You will pass out, and then your body will relax, and you will go back to normal breathing and will then wake up. Can you deal with that? If so then don't worry about the symptom, and go see a counselor about anxiety.
HOWEVER, if it is allergy and not anxiety then you need to stick with your medical doctor and their treatments. Because if you are having breathing issues due to allergies it could potentially escalate into something life threatening, if left un treated.
