Is cracking one's knuckles detrimental to joint health?!

Question: I've heard both sides of the argument. 1) it's just air escaping from between the joints 2) it's tendon's and/or cartilage snapping into an awkward position and wearing down. .... my personal opinion is that it must be fine, it's almost exactly what Chiropractors do... just in your fingers... and besides sometimes it happens in other areas of the body... so, it must be natural... right?

It is not dangerous nor does it cause arthritis in later life.

When you crack ur knuckles, it won't do anything bad to u...some rumors are that u woul get arthritis in ur fingers..but its not true~

no, its a myth

My son sees a rheumatologist (arthritis doctor) on a regular basis because he does have arthritis. she told him to never ever crack your fingers because it is in fact bad for them. you may not see it for many years, but over a period of time it does do damage, not just to those with arthritis, but also to healthy joints.

When you pop your knuckles. your ligaments cross over your bones and snap accroos them. This does wear down the ligaments. It creates severe joint pain when you get older in age. Sometimes if you di it way too frequently. It can snap like a rubber band and go straight up into your arm. and i can tell you. pple describe it as if sum1 cut their arm off. A chiropracter isnt just popping bones. he is realigning bones into proper positions that move because of the stress we put on our body. knuckle popping, is completely different.

It is natural.

In general there is nothing to worry about.

Excessive knuckle cracking can cause some damage over time. The ligaments can become inflamed and/or worn down. It does not lead to arthritis.

Chiropractors basically separate people from their money. There is something to be said for chiropractic medicine and there's some good chiropractors, but most are just quacks telling you they can cure everything by cracking your back. They even work on kids, who's bones aren't completely formed yet. Don't compare anything to what chiropractors do.
