From Australia. It depends on the Doctor. You may find a GP who "bulk bills". This means that you pay nothing (Just take your medicare card with you). Other Doctors get you to pay the fee and then you sign a form and Medicare refunds part of that fee to your bank account or posts you a check. It's very easy - just take the card in with you and the Doctors receptionist will explain.

its free in scotland

Its not free in the United States

Your correct medicare is free in Australia (is that the country you were after?) When you visit the GP you do just give the card and fill out forms but to get a medicare card you have to visit the medicare office or just go onto white pages and get their number, they will be able to give you all the info you need.
