Aqua phobia?!

Question: Aqua phobia?
hi all....i need ur opinion.

First of all I'm 28 yo and I've always had a bit of aqua phobia. I learned how to swim at age 14. I haven't really been swimming since then, i kinda avoid the pool. the times I've been in the pool i can't really swim, despite lessons. but I'm thinking to bite the bullet and take lessons....do u think this is a good idea? Would taking lessons again be better? Or just going to a pool during "free swim" time at the gym and trying to face my fears myself?

Is there any reason to be embarassed about this?

I would immediately go attend some free swim sessions. Take a friend along that knows your aprehension about the water and just have a good time trying to relax in the water. Many pools also have HotTubs available for the Adults and that may be a way to relax prior to entering the "Big Pool"

Swimming lessons from a private instructor where there is little outside disctraction might be in order as well. Start Swimming! This is great excercise and low impact on the joints, therefore you can do this into old age as a aerobic acitvity. Plug in your Zip Code into this site to find one in your area.

No reason to be embarrassed. It's good that you're trying to get over it. Take lessons and tell the instructor that you're a little fearful, so they will go slowly.
