Do most Assisted Living Residents live eventually in Nursing Homes?!

Question: That is what my mother-in-law thinks.

Answers: That is what my mother-in-law thinks.

no no no. my grandmother is in what is called 'group home. it is essentially an assisted living/nursing home. it has the more freedom than a nursing home, but more nursing care than assisted living. in my grandmothers case. she lives in a house with 6 other residents (they are usually in big houses). she has her own room with a closet and bathroom. she has all her own furnishings, except for a hospital bed. it is decoreated however she wants and has all her own pictures on the walls. there are always 3 or 4 nurses there. the owner, who is also a rn, visits everyday (she owns 3 group homes), and at least 1 or 2 spend the night every night...the nurses are 'on duty' so they don't sleep. they eat meals in the dining room with the other residents if they want, or they can eat in their room. they have TV's in their room, but there is a big TV in the living room, where my grandmother goes to watch football games. it is basically like their own home, but with good nursing care. she also has a call button in her room to call one of the nurses when she needs something.

these are all regulated by the state, so you can research them on the internet and find one that has a good record. you can also visit them before you decide on one.

also, the one my grandmother is in will let hospice come in, when it is time, and take care of her until she dies there. she won't have to go to a hosptial or nursing home.

now, i'm not saying that everyone would be able to go to a group home, but it a nursing home isn't always the only answer. plus, they are a lot cheaper than a nursing home!!! not cheap by any means, but cheaper!!!

hope this helps!

Unless they die in the Assisted Living,,,,yes,,that's the point....they go to Assisted Living, and they are going to decline, so a Nursing home is the next step...
