This hurts pretty bad?!

Hello
treatment of a chipped tooth depends on how bad the tooth is damaged. The dentist will ask how you did it and may take x rays. If there is not much pain and the x ray shows no nerve damage the dentist may simply file down the tooth. But most chips are normally treated with composite or porcelain veneers. Veneers are bonded to the tooth giving a smooth natural appearance. If there is pain in the tooth when eating or drinking the tooth may need a crown. A crown is a cap that covers the entire tooth and looks exactly the same as your other teeth and protects the tooth. I have 2 that are metal inside and porcelain outside and they are very strong indeed. Also a chipped tooth maybe filled. The same type of filling a dentist uses to fix cavities can be used to repair a chipped tooth.
Your tooth may stop hurting over time as my hubby chipped his tooth and it was hurting and he went and saw his dentist and the dentist checked it over and said they could just leave it as the chip was small and the pain should go away. Which it did after about 5 days. Your nerve maybe just upset from your chip and the tooth may just settle down again in a few days and you may need nothing doing to the tooth. But only your dentist can tell you this. Go and see him and he will tell you . Make sure he knows you grind your teeth so you can stop more damage from grinding. They may give you a mouth gard which will protect your teeth at night.
I think your tooth will mend on it's own or may need a small filling by the sound of your pain.
Hope you get on ok and take care

You will definitely need to go see a dentist. It's probably not going to be all that big a deal. They'll just patch it up with a special product that is similar to tooth enamel and then use light to harden it. Should be in and out of there in an hour or less!
Also mention the grinding to see if they can give you a protective guard to keep your teeth from wearing down.
yes you need a filling ASAP.
a cement layer over the chipped portion will prevent all the sensitivity.
