I had a chain attached to my canine tooth in the gums since June, why hasn'!

Question: I had a chain attached to my canine tooth in the gums since June, why hasn't it grown out yet?
Ortho says it should've came out in September. What if the tooth is dead? My god, if that the case. I'm gonna be one very VERY mad person.
I had it tightened more then once and it's still hasn't peirce through the gums. It just sits there. Probably going "Nananana, I'm so chilled that I'm not moving."

What do you guys think?

Answers:

An Orthodontic Expose and Bond of a chain to a tooth is a last ditch attempt to get the stubborn tooth down gradually and not forcefully. To bond the chain there must have been a piece of the tooth visible to see. The normal timescale for a impacted tooth to emerge into the space is 12 months. If the tooth is unable to come down then it is normally removed and the space closed up by the teeth either side and moved with in the brace. Be patient and open minded as sometimes this isnt successful but your Orthodontist can work miracles and use other options.

Depending on the location of your tooth, 6 months may not be enough time to move your impacted tooth. It is a good idea to have an x-ray taken periodically to make sure that movement is occurring and that the canine is not obstructed by or going to resorb the root of an adjacent tooth.

On occasion, teeth are ankylosed, meaning they are fixed rigidly in the bone. They are vital, but cannot be moved into the arch.

Speak to your orthodontist if you have any further concerns.

I think you should go and see your dentist very quickly...
