pain after a root canal?!
Question: Pain after a root canal?
Answers:
Is the root canal finished? Or do you have another appointment to finish it. The reason I ask is because. There is usually some pain after the first appointment. However there should not be any pain after the second one. Other than around the gum line from the crown prep.
The first appointment is when the dentist first removes the nerve and decay and places a medicated soothing filling in the hole. The second appointment the dentist will finish the fine filing and fill the canals with a rubberized filling. He will then prep the tooth for a crown.
Sometimes a dentist will do it all in one visit, skipping the medicated filling, if that is the case you can expect some pain.
If it is the first appointment or it was done in one visit try to take some over the counter pain medicine to help with the pain it should get better in a couple of days. If it doesn't you will need to contact your dentist. I hope this helps.
I am a dental assistant and mom of 2
It's normal. Though if the pain doesn't go away after about a week I would go to the dentist as the root canal may not have been successful.
Hopeful dentist :)
