Swelling in roof of mouth after root canal?!

Question: Swelling in roof of mouth after root canal!?
I had am infection in my upper jaw (apparently) which necessitated root canal treatment!. I had the first stage last week, where the dentist removed the root of the tooth, and suggested I go back in a few weeks for the second step: filling the tooth with something!.
Immediately after the procedure, however, the roof of my mouth swelled up, so it looks and feels like I have a small grape trapped in my pallet!. I went to the dentist again who prescribed me antibiotics (I think the infection from my jaw has migrated to my pallet)!. The dentist didn't want to lance the swelling to drain it as she thought it might go away on its own with antibiotics!.
Four days later, the pain has gone but the swelling is still there, presumably because whatever infection (pus!?) is trapped in my pallet has nowhere to go!.

My question is: would it be safe / recommended to prick the roof of my mouth with a needle and try to drain the pus out myself!? I tried over the weekend but the skin was really tough (as the dentist warned me it would be) and in the end I chickened out!. Any suggestions, since my dentist doesn't seem to think draining the pus is a good idea!? Should I try to lance / drain it myself!?

Answers:
No!. Don't 'lance it' yourself!. When the root canal was started, after she was done with that appointment, she 'closed up' the tooth!. The infection then had nowhere to drain!. So it pools up around the root of the tooth!. By the way, when we do root canals, we do NOT remove the root of the tooth!. We remove the nerve tissue (pulp) from inside the tooth and roots!. There is a canal down each root through which the nerve travels and exits the tooth into the jaw, upper or lower!. It's connected to the blood supply of your body, keeping the tooth alive and healthy!. When we remove the nerve tissue it leaves an empty chamber and empty canals which your dentist will fill up with a material after she has removed all the nerve tissue and cleaned out the canals to her satisfaction!. Hence the name 'root canal'!. If you are on antibiotics, they should slowly clear up the infection, but if the swelling gets bigger or pain starts to set in, call your dentist again!. But DONT open it up yourself!. It will cause more problems than it will solve!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's such a shame!. I really hope your body will sort this itself!. Please modify your diet for the time being, as I have an abcessed tooth, and there's a very small spot sized pus bump poking out the gum, and I notice that this drains naturally, but fills again very quickly throughout days where I eat greasy or sweet junk foods!. Eat clean foods and see if there's a huge improvement!. Drink alot of water too!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ouchy!.!!
No, don't do that!. The fact that the pain has gone, indicates that the antibiotics are actually working, and the infection is not getting bigger!.
It will take a little while longer to disperse any remaining fluid in your pallet!.
Hang in there!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dont try to lance it yourself!. Whatever is in there will be reabsorbed into your body and removed through waste removal process!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, don't mess with it!. It might be from bleeding but it also might be infection!.
If you are not happy with the dentist's opinion have a word with your GP!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
