They are placed differently for everyone; it depends how your bite is!. It looks like the rubber bands are going to pull down on your teeth to fix the gap between your top teeth and bottom teeth!.
Don't worry, my one friend have one attached on the right side of her mouth to the left, so the placing will depend on your bite!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Like the other answers, they are there to correct your bite!. The little colored rubber bands on your brackets hold the wire into place and the wire is what moves your teeth into the correct place in your arch (the shape your teeth make, like a "u") If you shift your jaw when you bite, or if your middle teeth (incisors) don't line up they'll use the rubber bands to help correct it!. So, the wire puts your teeth into the right place and the rubber bands make sure that when you close your mouth you are biting correctly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I have never seen it done like that before!. But obviously your bite is different than what I've seen before!. That's why you have the rubber bands to help with your bite!.

Those rubberbands are for fixing your bite!. Your ortho probably wants those teeth in a different position, probably to fix an overbite!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
