I've been under sedation for lots of dental work!.!.!. its not bad at all!. The gas makes you feel like you are doing back flips and everything is really pleasant!. I've found that listening to my ipod makes it even more relaxing!.
1!.If you have a cavity then you will either hear a buzz from a drill or a snapping from a laser!. but it sounds really distant since you are in your own world!.
2!.Local numbing is really strange!.!.!. it feels like you have a fat lip and missing teeth when you close your mouth!.
3!. The gas awesome, it smells bad at first but then you get used to it!. You can open and close your eyes as you see fit!. I personally like to close mine!. The will totally get the gas out of your system before they let you leave!. they just give you oxygen until you are nomal!. Takes like 5 mins, if even that much!.
4!. you can wear whatever eyewear you would like!. If you want to be able to close your eyes for a long time, then wear your glasses but honestly, it really doesn't matter!.
5!. I have eaten lunch 20 mins prior to my appt!. so it really doesn't matter if they are totally knocking you out, they will probably give you specific instructions!.
6!. I would recommend getting a good nights sleep that way your nerves will be rested and you won't more of a nervous wreck!.
7!. you hold your mouth open!. you are still in control of all your motor functions, if you are having trouble, i'm sure they will help you!.
You will be able to respond, usually they will ask a few times if you are doing ok!. you will be able to speak if you need to (ie to say something hurts or you feel something you are unsure of!.) You very rarely will feel things going down your throat, they use suction to keep the area dry and you can always swallow if you need to!.
