What's it like getting wisdom teeth out?!

Question: What's it like getting wisdom teeth out!?
I am having all four at once, done by an oral surgeon!. General Anesthesia being used!. I was told that i won't remember much from the entire visit to the oral surgeon's office!.

Also in a couple days i have having a consultation with the oral surgeon - what is this for!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You don't remember much that's for sure!. I don't remember walking from the office to the car!. U won't be able to eat a whole lot the day that you have them out, mainly like shakes from mcdonalds or something!. And you're going to sleep a whole lot that day!. You're not advised to use straws because that can cause dry socket!. You're gonna be eating soft foods for a few days because it hurts to chew sometimes so like mashed potatoes, stuffing, jello all of that fun stuff!.

the consultation is so they know what they are getting into, like xrays and past history and stuff!. They also talk you through what the procedure and what to expect after the surgery is done!.

The whole thing isn't too bad!. I had my 4 wisdom teeth and 3 baby teeth removed at once and where the baby teeth were hurt more than were the wisdom teeth were!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had all of mine out at the same time, too!.

The consultation is probably just so the surgeon can get a feel for what's going on in there!. Wisdom teeth can become impacted (squished into the jawbone - all of mine were) which makes getting them out harder!.

I had local anesthetic with a mild general sedative!. I wasn't ever totally out, but my memory of the whole process is pretty vague!. I mostly just sat there and stared out the window and wondered what those weird sounds were (which were of course some jawbone getting chipped away and then the teeth being removed)!.

Make sure you have a friend or family member lined up to take you home!. You won't be able to (or even feel like) driving yourself, and they shouldn't let you in a cab by yourself!.

They'll give you a prescription for pain killers, probably Tylenol with codeine, but if you're lucky, vicodin or something similar!. You'll need these, as the incisions do hurt for a while!. You'll also have to keep the back corners of your mouth stuffed with gauze, and the gauze will need to be changed every so often!.

I had mine out on a Friday morning and I went back to work on Monday, and I really wish I hadn't!. You'll need a few days to get back to normal!. It's isn't hardcore surgery, but it's still surgery!.

Eating solid food will be pretty much impossible at first and hard for a while!. I got a case of Ensure shakes that I drank for the first few days!. Hot drinks aren't a good idea at first either - avoid coffee and tea!.

After a while, you'll be able to move to more solid food!. I started out with soups, then soft, solid food!. I avoided crunchy things for a couple weeks, I think!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it all depends!. your pain tolerance , the surgeon, and the wisdom teeth!. if impacted, imbedded in your jaw then it hurts like no tomorrow and pain meds will be in order!. also there are nerves that run through their so if the good surgeon nicks, bruises etc one of them !.!.!.ouch x 10!.
A co-worker just had two taken out and it was a peice of cake for him, pain meds barely needed!. Just be sure they all have to come out, dont get them out if they dont all need it!. docs like $$$$ and each tooth is a $!.\

Consultation is to ensure you are not sick, and you are prepared to miss work and that you will have someone to get you to and fro the dr!. office day of surgery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

With a general you won't feel a thing or even be aware of the surgery being done!. I had a topical and got to listen and watch (sort of) while they took mine!. It didnt hurt at the time!. You'll be a little sore afterwards and there will be some bleeding but nothing too bad!.

The consultation meeting is so the surgeon can familarize himself with you and your mouth and make sure there won't be any complications!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow all four!? Good luck!. I had both on one side done!. The injection hurts just like when they take care of a cavaty, and you feel them pushing a pulling to get it out!. But if you're having General, then I guess you'll be asleep through it!. I just got local!. But it is true all 4 at the same time is better, because I never went back for the other side!. The pain starts a couple of hours later!. It feels like your body knows that there is now a hole where there should be something!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i had the same thing done!. my teeth grew in side ways so they were pushing all of my other teeth forward!.
the surgery is painless you will have anesthesia!. the only thing i can say is!. when they give you the anestesia it will burn!. afterward you will feel dizzy and they will probably give you vicodin wich is great!. plan on not doing anything for about two days!.
dont worry you will be fineWww@Answer-Health@Com

well getting teeth pulled out will be ok, they numb out your mouth yank it out an give you laughing gas!.
it jus makes a horrible sound when they pull it out!.!. you can hear the crackling of the teeth been ripped out *shivers*!.

buuuuuut im sorry im not sure about the oral surgeon!.! *sigh*Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you get put under, the process isn't so bad!. Afterwards, after the anesthesia wears off, your mouth and teeth will ache for awhile!. Your gums may bleed, mine did for a few days!. I had to rinse with salt water for several days and take the pain meds!. In a week, you should be ok!.
Good Luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Umm!.!. getting just one out hurts really bad so getting all 4 out at the same time will be awfull!. Your mouth will be swollen for a pretty good amount of time!. You probley wont remember the dentist trip or the way home but the pain will hit that night!. Get good pain meds!. The consultation is probley just for a check up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ouch!.
well it shouldnt hurt that bad when they pull it out
but when they do surgery and cut open your gums that hurts after
and your wound will bleed for about a day or two
be sure to keep it clean and rise your mouth out
other then that you will be alright!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the after part hurts a lil, but the give you meds for it!.!.!.you'll only need it for 2-3 days, then the appnt afterwards is to makesure you are healing properly and things like thatWww@Answer-Health@Com

The consultation is just because they have to!. They just tell you what they are going to do!.
The whole proceedure isn't too bad!. My cheaks swelled up and I looked like a chipmonk :)
The painkillers rock! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not that bad, especially with anesthesia!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
