Going to dentist for Tmj?!

Question:

Going to dentist for Tmj?

I am going to the dentist for my TMJ, i have bad TMJ & i am getting really sick of this pain, i am going to ask my dentist for a muscle relaxer, but usually they do not want to give me anything, i dont want to seem like im begging for pills but i need something, how should i tell my dentist to give me a muscle relaxer? Or what kind of doctor should i see for TMJ that will be wiling to give me medicine?

Answers:

I have had TMJ troubles for more than 15 years. There are three things I would highly recommend: 1) get a flat plane acrylic device to wear on your lower teeth..this prevents grinding and takes the stress off the jaw joints..costs about $200. 2) see someone for self-hypnosis therapy that will allow you to relax your jaw when it locks up .. a good shrink...costs $300-$500. 3) valium is the only, the one and only muscle relaxant that has given me TMJ relief....if your case is so severe that the joints are swollen you may try steroids with the valium...it worked for me and valium is the cheapest relaxer on the market. Finding a sympathetic doctor may take time. A good shrink that knows what you are up against or even a neurologist may be able to help you.

good luckl
