How are you supposed to floss if you have braces?!

Question:

How are you supposed to floss if you have braces?

My orthodontist keeps telling me to floss but he won't tell me how.

Whenever I've tried, I can only get from the bottom up to the wire, and then the floss catches on the bracket and shreds. That can't be what he means, can it?

I brush my teeth and use mouthwash twice a day, is it okay that I'm not flossing too?

Answers:

I recommend Oral B Super Floss.

It has a stiff threader on one end, followed by regular floss, and "fuzzy floss" on the other end.
This work really great with ortho. Use the stiff end to thread under your wire, floss between your teeth like normal (make sure you go BELOW the gum line), and then use the fuzzy end to clean around the brackets. You can find these at any supermarket or drug store.
This is much easier than dealing with floss threaders. They are more like treading a needle for every single tooth.
