Answers: TMJ - (Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome) a missaligment of the joint connecting upper and lower jaw resulting in muscle and joint pain in the jaw area.

The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a small joint located in front of the ear where the skull and lower jaw meet. It permits the lower jaw (mandible) to move and function.

TMJ disorders are not uncommon and have a variety of symptoms. Patients may complain of earaches, headaches and limited ability to open their mouth. They may also complain of clicking or grating sounds in the joint and feel pain when opening and closing their mouth. What must be determined, of course, is the cause. Stress is often a huge factor atleast in my case anyway. I would definitely familiarize myself with more information on the disorder click on the link below it is very helpful and will show you diagrams of the joints associated with tmj.
When I was diagnosed with TMJ I went ahead and paid the $500 to purchase the Night Guard from my dentist, and every penny was well worth it I could tell a huge difference within 30 mins. of using it. I know Wal-Mart and most large chain pharmacies sell night guards but I'm not sure how well they work they cost between 20-30 dollars.
