Chewing gum in my open socket...? What should I do?!

Question: Like many post-wisdom-teeth-op patients here, I worry about having all 4 of my sockets open.

And it seems that now one of them is packed with... what seems to be chewing gum. I chew gum quite frequently to get rid of the post-op-sweatsock-breath, but never thought that it'd pack up one of my sockets.

There's no pain, just a stiff uncomfortable, packed-tightness feeling in the sockets.

I've been quite lucky thus far (touch wood) and the healing rate has been miraculous, compared to many of my peers who'd gone through the same experience. I could eat soft food like fish and bread a day after the operation.

I've been quite religious about swishing with warm brine to flush out other food debris from the sockets before. but it doesn't seem to be happening now. it's been 6 days since the operation.

should i worry? my dentist has scheduled an appt next monday... can my open, albeit minty sockets wait?

Before you pull out that gum... are you sure it's your chewing gum? Call your dentist really quickly and ask about it. There are certain dressings that may have been placed on gum tissue that look alot like chewing gum. Or it could just be healing, as the socket heals a white film develops which is essentially a scab looks like in the mouth. You may find you just ripped off your scab.

u can get it out with a tweezers, also if you go to the drugstore and get a small syringe, use that to flush the open sockets.

Its never good for food of anykind to just sit in your mouth for a long period of time. I suggest trying to remove it. its been six days so I dont think there is a risk of you gettng dry socket now, it has hadtime to form a blood clot over it. if itstarts bleeding apply the gauze, but swish with warm salt water first to get anything that might have been left behind out!
