The dentist has advised aveloplasty. If I opt to not have the procedure, what wi!
Question:
The dentist has advised aveloplasty. If I opt to not have the procedure, what will happen with my dentures?
The dentist said something about having to reline dentures in two years. Does that mean if I don't have the aveloplasty, the result will be just having to get my dentures relined? I have temporary dentures right now, and have no sore areas unless he really rubs my gums. I'm leary and wonder if it's really necessary.
Answers:
By suggesting that procedure, he obviously feels that the shape of the bone in your jaw is not an ideal shape to make a good fitting denture. Normally this procedure is done at the time extractions are done, so I am not really sure why he would want to do it now.
Since I don't have your x-rays, I don't know the real reason he feels it is necessary. However, he might feel that you would get a better fitting denture if you let him reshape the bone.
You can certainly try to just keep wearing the dentures you have or even get a new set, but you might sit down and ask him exactly why he feels that you would benefit from the alveoloplasty.
