This is known as a parafunctional habit. Like holding nails in your mouth, chewing your fingernails, breaking thread between your teeth or chewing on pen caps, these strange habits can result in abnormal wear on your front teeth.
If you want to avoid a big dental bill to fix a worn down tooth, or a broken tooth, I would try to avoid doing things like that.
