Question about my oral routine?!

Question: i dont want to gross anybody out but....ok, i brush my teeth 3-4 times a day, and in the morning i use that listerine whitening treatment (its a pre-brush rinse) and everytime i brush i use listerine mouthwash. at night i use a flouride rinse. .............i get a whitish film on the inside of my cheeks, its kind of like a thin layer of something. it happens in the morning, mid morning usually. i peel it off with my tongue and spit it out, but its annoying. anybody know whats causing it?

I'm really particular about having a clean mouth too, but watch out...there is such a thing as too much brushing! I never would have believed it until I heard it from my dentist who told me that my excessive brushing was actually wearing the enamel off of my teeth! He recommended using a soft bristled brush (which I can't stand - it doesn't make my mouth feel "clean" to me!) & only brushing after meals (3x a day, rather than the 6-7 times I was doing - literally, I've got toothbrushes at home, in my purse, at work, the little finger scrubbie things for in the car - just a little OCD about it!). The excessive brushing w/ a medium bristled brush was the cause of the enamel wearing off & he said once it's gone, there's no getting it back! Make sure to floss once a day as well. Hope this helps!

It's the whitening stuff you use.

the pre rinse. i use that stuff too and i get it as well. so whenever i don't use it, i don't get it. if you don't like it cut out the pre rinse

wtf?

Ask your dentist, but it sounds like you are doing way to much and all the chemicals you are using in your mouth are building up to creat the film.

I can tell you what it is. Its actually the dead skin in your mouth peeling off from the execive amount of toothpaste being pushed into your cheeks. I've had it happen to my whole mouth when I made a bet that I could get a whole tube of toothepaste in my mouth.

maby its cos you using two different kinds of mouthwash and there both in you mouth mixing with your fluids you drink maby just try one and dont brush as much just try brushing twice a day morning and night there for your mouth is having time to use ur natural slyther instead of all the acids from the toothpaste and listerine thingy

That is strange, I have never had that white film in my mouth... hum.. maybe you are over using the listerine and it is burning the lining of your mouth. I think that's why they tell you to brush twice a day??

probably the whitening mouth wash actually. I used a whitening kit once and it did that to me too, but if your talking about a slimy film over your teeth and whole mouth in the morning when you wake up, its because you brush so well that it in the night bacteria form and multiply in your mouth.

This is not a normal occurance. Some of these products have ingredients that are aggrivating your oral cavity and are apparently causing your tissue to slough away. I would suggest laying off all the rinse and switching your toothpaste to something very mild. ( try tom's ) Its also a good idea to use the softest toothbrush available. I also suggest that you rinse your mouth with warm salt water three or four times a day, just to bathe the tissues and make them feel better. However, you must see your dentist to determine the cause of the problem so it can be properly treated. Treating the symptoms might make you feel better in the short term, but finding their cause is most important.

Skin peeling does not occur without a cause, although this does not mean it is something serious (it could even be a medication you are on). Someone must evaluate your mouth for different kinds of systemic lesions to determine the culprit.

you put too much **** in your mouth dumass

I second what livehappy says.

First the skin gets irritated (that burning when you use listerine) and the it sloughs off to give that white residue.

Did you satisfiy your husband before sending him off to work again? LOL
