Wisdom teeth extraction....???!

Question: Has any one on here ever have their wisdom teeth removed? How long did the procedure last? What did you use for pain control during the procedure? How long did the pain last afterwards? And what did they give you for pain once the procedure was done.

Im having mine removed on Tuesday. Just want to know what Im in for.

Any help would be great!! Thanks in advance.

I've had them all removed, they did all 4 at once, they put me under completely with laughing gas and an IV of something, but I don't know what. I was so glad they knocked me out for it ... woke up, and they were all out, never felt a thing during the entire procedure.

Afterwards is kind of a pain in the butt, but you'll get through it just fine. To help with the pain afterwards, I was on Darvocet - it was great, just basically knocked me out so I slept for about 4 days in and out lol. The soreness is kind of bad for the first week, then it starts to heal, but it's still sore ... takes about 8 weeks to fully heal, but after the first 2 weeks it's a lot more bearable.

Sidenote: For at least the first week afterwards, don't drink milkshakes or anything you have to suck on to get to, because the suction creates a painful vaccuum in your mouth! And, DO NOT eat potato chips (or anything that breaks into tiny salty slivers) until the holes have really healed ... otherwise it gets down in there! Ouch! - LOL these are all from personal experience!!!!

Good luck!

p.s. Just wanted to add that some doctors knock you out to remove your wisdom teeth, and some don't, so you might want to find out which one your doctor does, and which you would prefer, before your appt. next week.

it doesnt take too long, they will knock you out (put you to sleep, general anesthesia)...... you wont feel anything while its being done, theyll give you lortab or vicodin probably afterwards. It'll take a week or two to heal..... just be sure not to suck a straw or anything (to avoid a dry socket!!)

when theyre done they give you something that wakes you back up and you'll probably wake up as theyre walking you to your car.... lol. thats what happened to me I woke up as they helped me out the door to my truck(the dentist and my husband) Im sure you know you need someonew there to drive you.....

you will be groggy for awhile after. I came home and slept for five or six hours,, make sure when you get home if you sleep to sleep with a towel under your face as to catch the blood cause i have a huge stain on my mattress from it from not thinking.

if the surgeon is good, you'll have no problem. I had mine removed a few years ago. They told me to take Vioxx (it went off the market a few months later) and I did and it was great: that night I was out shopping! no joke. I think that they will give you all the instructions beforehand. If they don't call you by monday, it's perfectly acceptable to call them and ask what you should do. I had general anesthesia, by the way, and I didn't swell at all.
Good luck!

no it does not hurt after surgery i was given gas and had all four pulled because they kept going in and out (meaning they would come up out of the gum and go back in the gum)now that was painful funny thing it was only happening on on side of my mouth and on the other side the wisdom teeth were impacted in my gums and couldn't come up it like 30 Min's i was so glad they took them out ask to see them they have really long roots on them how these eases your mind

i,ve had my extracted two months ago, with local, Novocain anesthesia only. i was completely painless, only, when it came to, i felt , not really pain, but bruise-like pressure. i took codeine and ibuprofen the first day after and then, rinsed thoroughly, four, five times a day with saline, to disinfect the wound. (it keeps bleeding for awhile) the wound will be continuously closing op. don
