no. if there's infection, it's usually localized just to the piercing site. i'm sure there are exceptions in extreme cases though.
i don't know what type of jewelry could turn the tongue green. the only types of piercing jewelry i am aware of are gold, sterling silver--which has a natural antibiotic quality--titanium/blackline, zircon gold/zircontwo, niobium, steel, surgical steel, implantatium, pyrex, acrylic/plexiglass, teflon(pfte), horn, bone, and wood.
EDITS: there can be problems w/ nickel or steel jewelry that has a high content of nickel silver. a lot of ppl are sensitive to it. buy implant grade or surgical steel.
