Also, I used to work for a health insurance company and elective procedures such as this were never covered. Ask anyway though.

Some dentists will give you a free 5 minute examination, others charge you $50 for it. Your insurance policy probably doesn't cover cosmetic dentistry. Ask your insurance provider for the specific details.
Cosmetic dentistry is very expensive. I've had sessions that were $1000. However teeth whitening is about $150. Ask how much a veneer costs.
