I'll be getting four wisdom teeth removed in a few days. What can I expect?!

Question: Two are partially grown in, one is growing sideways towards my other teeth, and one is still in the gums. What can i expect? (pain, medication, etc...)

Your oral surgeon will prescribe meds for you..make sure you don't have an empty stomach--or you will throw up..or hav a stomach ache. You'll be miserable for a couple of days--try to sleep through it.

Before hand--make sure your refrigerator is stocked with ice cream, jello...and popcycles...yogurt,..as you get better-cottage cheese, Kraft macaroni & cheese...Soup is good..not hot--barely warm at first so the sores will scab and heal.

Plenty of liquids..No straws-because sucking on them will stress your sore mouth..you don't want to chance getting dry socket-hurts (disloged scabs ).

Honest-your dentist-oral surgeon will give instructions..just follow them and you'll do ok..the med's will make you sleepy-ans sleeping while you hurt and heal is best.

My son had his wisdom teeth out just 2 days ago..and my daughter last month...they won't let you leave the clinic with out instructions-I promise you...

My daughter got to keep her teeth-my son didn't...I guess my daughter could make a necklace.....but ewww.

The medicine will know you out..and 2 days after surgury--my son wanted and managed pizza...but no crust..and little bites.

Good luck..

you will have to have something in your stomache--but will be hurting-and won't be able to chew food.

penicillin vicodin and pain

if your dentist is anything like mine was, 3 months of agony followed by a chunk of your tooth growing out of your gum because he left it in there and never considered that that was why you were in wretched pain.

Your cheeks will swell. They'll even swell over your teeth where you can't bite down. You'll have gauze stuffed in the back of your mouth. You'll be sore after the surgery. The first few days are pretty rough--can't eat food, taste blood all of the time. But, it doesn't last forever. Good luck.

of course there will be pain, don't worry your dentist can prescribe you something. then you can't eat somehting solid or hard for the first few days (would be very very painful if you did). and you would feel with your tounge the stitches that would be left behind, but its not permanent.

When I had it done, I had no problems. Upon leaving the office, I felt great. I was a little groggy, though. Anyway, about two days later, I had HORRIBLE ear pain. It took me a few hours to relate it to the surgery. I called my physician, and he met me at the office. I had a dry socket and he packed it immediately. I had one of the most horrible outcomes, and it was NOT bad at all! You will be fine!

Hope this link helps you with all information regarding your teeth.Try out http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/ for more details.

its ok.. some gums swelling.. u should be fine after some days.. however, i advise u do it partially.. e.g. do the top and bottom left first.. so u can eat using ur right side.. its better. i done it this way.. all 4 teeth got now for me..

the needles that put the novacaine in hurt the worst. if you smoke, don't afterwards

its pretty quick and painless

Your dentist or oral surgeon would be the best one to answer this question. If they are legitimate...they should have already provided that information. If they have not...don't do it...seriously...find a dentist or oral surgeon that tells you what to expect and what they can do to help you afterwards.

I had 4 wisdom teeth CUT out (were below my gum line) in the early 1980's and went out that very night and was told not to 'chew in the back of my mouth and not to use a straw'... and had no problems other than the expected swelling. Never had stitches, but maybe they do it different now. If your teeth are 'impacted', then I guess that is why they would have to use stitches because they will have to go deep into your gums.
Again...your dentist or oral surgeon should have answered all of these questions already. Call them and ask them the same thing you asked here. If you get no reasonable answer...go to a different dentist or oral surgeon.

Two months ago, I had my wisdom teeth pulled before I got braces. At first, your oral surgeon will inject several shots of Novocaine in your top and bottom gums; this will be somewhat painful. Then, he or she will wait for the numbness to set in. Once it has, your OS will grab the tooth with some pliers and pull. At first, you will feel a lot of pressure, but you shouldn't feel any pain. To do this, they will wiggle the tooth and then yank it from its roots. For the tooth that hasn't come in yet, they will make a small incision, then proceed as stated above. Once the four wisdom teeth are removed, they will give you stitches with a threaded-hook. Afterwards, they will clean away as much blood as possible, then put some gauze in your mouth to stop the bleeding. In the meantime, you must bite down on them and try not to talk. (You won't be able to speak that much anyway.) You will have to swallow the blood for 30 minutes. You cannot spit the blood out or you will reopen the stitches. Also, they will prescribe you an anti-inflammatory medicine called Clindamycin, which are 300mg, and some 800mg ibuprofen. Be sure to take all the medicine that they give you, or you will be in a lot of pain. Your cheeks will swell up like a chipmunk for a week or so, so use an ice pack for the first 24 hours only, then switch to a heating pad. Eventually, the stitches will dissolve and you can go back to eating regular food, but in the meantime, eat lukewarm, soft food. Good luck!

P.S. Do not use a straw.

Just one more thing. I know that you've been given a lot of good advice already. I just need to add this and it is important. When I was a young teenager I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth. Two of them were giving me trouble so I had them removed. The others didn't bother me. When I was 14 I got braces and wore braces all through high school. I hated it (including the blisters that I got when making out) After I got the braces off the other wisdom teeth decided to come in and made all of those years of torture wearing braces and all of the money it cost my parents worthless. So get them all pulled. Don't be foolish like I was.

I just got all 4 impacted teeth taken out (2 in my sinus and 2 embedded in my jaw bone). And to be honest, despite all of the horror stories that I am sure you are getting, you will be fine. I have had NO pain whatsoever. The only negative thing I can say is that my cheeks are kinda swollen but they have gone down a lot in the past 2 days. Hopefully you are getting fully sedated (trust me you do NOT want to wake up with all the force they need to break and pull the teeth).
You'll wake up, write your prescriptions, I got Percocet, 600mg Ibprofen, anti inflammatory meds, and a mouthwash to prevent infection. All is going well so far.
Don't be scared, just laugh off the nervousness like I did and the 'sleepy drugs' will knock you out within 10 seconds of being injected =)
