Notrious oxide does not put you to sleep, it just relaxes you and makes you less aware of what is going on however some people can have bad reactions to it. Having a needle of any kind isn't fun and it's worse when it is coming at your from a great height. As soon as you arrive at the office take slow deep breathes and concentrate on that.

The dentist should a rub a numbing gel on the gun first, if he doesn't ask for it, it stops you from feeling the pinch of the needle and then all you should feel is very soft pressure and a dull sting.

Good Luck, Be Brave

i suggest you break your fear. listen to music while they do it, your a young girl and you probably have lots of "shots" in your future. nitrous oxide kills pain and makes you relaxed so they can administer the shot and you will not care that they did.. but if you dont look at the needle, or hear them.. it doesn't hurt more then a pinch, so try another route before you do the nitrous oxide, but if it comes down to it - that would make your time easier.

the gas will not put you to sleep it will relax you. you will be able to fell the shot BUT it will just feel like a little prick not bad cus you will ba out of it from the gas!

good luck i am sure you will do fine!

The nitrous oxide is sort of like a drug. It's used to calm your nerves, which means that the shot will still hurt a little, but you won't be so uptight about it. It usually doesn't seem to hurt as much, though. The gas doesn't put you to sleep, although it can make you drowsy. If they give you too much of it, you can start to feel dizzy or even "trippy" (I once started thinking to myself, "Wow, I'm an actual person...like, really one me"....it was freaky). But my dentist was crazy so I don't think you have to worry about that happening! It will just help calm you down a little.

I'm 50 and have had zillions of shots at the dentist, and I hated every one of them!
That one dude said it felt like a "little prick"...there's a joke in there but I ain't going.
But anyway, it feels to me like the dentist is jamming a sharp wire up into my brain!
My dentist gives me plenty of gas, plus rubs that nasty tasting stuff on my gums and is pretty gentle...and I still do the white-knuckle thing on the chair!

Brush and floss your teeth constantly! Carry a spare toothbrush with you and don't feel embarrassed to take the time to brush when you're at the mall or whatever. A little ribbing by your friends is loads better than that steel sharp jammed into your gums and poking out of your eyeball.

BTW, it won't make your mom happy when I tell you that whipped cream is packed in nitrous oxide and you can sample it to see what it's like. (You should buy your own though 'cause once you use up all the nitrous the whipped cream won't come out of the can and someone is gonna be piss't!)

I had that Nitrous oxide at the dentist a lot of times because of my fear of needles...And I actually didn't feel the shot or anything they did...Like I was relaxed and the shot didn't even bother me...And im not sure why other people feel the shot because I didnt...But everyone is different...But im sure you will be happy with the gas if you have a fear of needls like I do...Im 15 and I will still pick that over the normal thing because I will pass out if I see a needle...Its actually kinda sad...Lol.

But yea...I hope you are happy with what ever you choose.
Good luck!
