Mouth ulcers?!

Question: I get mouth ulcers all the time. I've researched everything and can't seem to pinpoint what is causing them. I'm currently taking vitamins and thinking about changing toothpaste. Anyone else have the same problem or have any suggestions?

In Pain

I have worked in the dental profession for 18 yrs. Mouth ulcers are common and can be very painful. try Adcortyl in Orabase paste 10g. and use a Mouthwash called Gengigel, its all natural stuff but really helps. Is there a chance your iron levels are low? this can cause ulceration. They should always clear up after aprox 7 - 10 days. Ask your dentist for a referral to a specialist if you are worried.

There is a mouthrinse you can get in the drugstore called Peroxyl and it's made by the Colgate company. Have you had your dentist check out the problem? I would get an appointment with him first and see what he says.

Recurring mouth ulcers normally point to a low immune system...so it's good you're taking vitamins. Sometimes it could also be due to the food you eat, especially if they are highly acidic. Maybe you could try eating less spicy or acidic food, plus maintaining good oral hygiene of course.

Hope this helps...good luck!

I get mouth ulcers regularly as well..i get them when i am run down or stressed out. it is hard to pinpoint a cause but it is known that people who stress are more prone to them. mine used to last for 1 to 2 weeks and i would be in agony. Until I was fed up and i went to my GP and he prescribed me a corticosteroid pump (like the one you would take for asthma) to spray directly onto the ulcer (and be sure not top breathe it in!)... it worked so well.. now they only last me about 3 days because it accelerates the healing time. perhaps you should enquire about this at your GP. another thing is to stay away from orange juice and all acidic fruits. good luck!

I also have a problem with mouth ulcers and I have found that it is usually due to stress which never goes away or trauma if I am brushing in a big rush and hit my gum really hard or something like that I will usually get an ulcer in a few days .I use salt water rinses and mouth wash doesn't make go away but doesn't seem as sore .
