Question:
I had a labial frenectomy on Tuesday, and it's sunken in and a strange color, is it infected?
The flesh around it is slightly red, the actual site of the operation is sunken in, and all of it is an off-white color. It's not leaking or oozing, and it has no foreign flavor, I'm just concerned. I've already contacted the surgeon, but is this an infection?
Answers:
Not likely, infection usually involves swelling and pain and pus. This sounds like a normal healing frenectomy. Depending on what instrument they used to perform the frenectomy, often they burn the tissue w/ an electrosurge. It basically electronically burns the tissue off/cuts it and no bleeding involved normally. So, a sunken in area would be normal b/c that tissue is gone now. The off-white color is the color that the tissue makes as it begins to heal.
