A sulcus is the space between the tooth and gum tissue - it is where a dental instrument is inserted when you are having a cleaning or check-up. If you were told you have a pocket, then this sulcus area may be deeper than normal due to gum disease.
a normal sulcus pocket is between 1- 4 mm
If you have a 5mm or deeper, then you might have those areas monitored, perhaps a deep "scraping" when you get your teeth cleaned.
