What does the wisdom tooth extraction site look like if its healing right?!

Question:

What does the wisdom tooth extraction site look like if its healing right?

I had my wisdom tooth out yesterday and I wanted to know if the site looks ok. I am having pain worse now then before and had to take more percocet. Its like a deep hole with something dark gray in it (stitches I presume?). The hole looks deeper than it did yesterday. If there is the protective clot there I can't see it, should I be able to? If it helps I oozed blood for a while, and I think I kept the gauze in too long because I didn't know any better. Please help. Thanks.

Answers:

the pain that you are feeling is normal. the site looks ok. u would still feel that hole for several weeks. healing process will take you around 3 weeks to 1 month. the extraction site will close after 1 month or more, depends on your healing process. Call your dentist right away if there is oozing of blood from the extraction site.usually the blood clots after 5 to 10 minutes. the gray thing that you notice can be the stitches and the blood clot. do not toy the extraction site with your tongue because it will retard the healing process and you might remove the blood clot that was formed. avoid fishy food for about 2-3 days.
