Wisdom teeth not out yet?!

Question:

Wisdom teeth not out yet?

well my wisdom teeth arent out yet so i have to go to the oral surgoeon to get them out (im getting braces adn they are pushing on my other teeth) so im wondering if since they are not out yet, and they will have to cut them out, if this will have a say in how long the swelling lasts. anyone know how long swelling tipically lasts? i have a weekend to get better that would be fri, sat, sun, and maybe thursday because i have to work most other days, any advice?

Answers:

My 4 wisdom teeth were extracted under a general anaesthetic by an oral surgeon when I was 16 - its alot easier when there are only small roots on them - they are still in a little "sac" and they come out like an egg, just scoop them out. If there are roots, the surgeon knows how to remove them the best.

I was pretty swollen for about a week. I also had a small amount of bruising (which is normal too). The trick is the minute they're out to start applying ice-packs to your face. 20minutes on, 20 minutes off and keep doing it. you're face will feel really cold and unpleasant but the first 2 days is the crucial time to get on top of the swelling. Don't slack off, try do it through the night too if you are able to. have a couple of packs (or frozen peas) on the go. Wrap them in a towel and off you go! Pain factor is minimal - you'll be on painkillers and the surgeon usually gives you some local anaesthetic too.

Good luck, you'l be fine! ;0)
