Can anyone offer a cure for angular celitis - cracked corners of the mouth?!

Question: Angular chelitis IS NOT ORAL CANCER!!!!!!

Your best bet is to get Daktarin gel. You can get it over the counter at the chemist. This will clear it up but not stop it coming back.

If you have dentures you should soak them in dilute cold bleach also as these can harbour infection. If you don't have dentures go and see your GP to get your iron levels cheched. Angular Chelitis can be a sign of anaemia. You can also get oral yeast infections after a course of antibiotics or if you use inhalers for asthma rinse your mouth out with water after using them.

WARNING: Do not use Daktarin gel if you are taking a blood-thinning medication called warfarin. Otherwise its safe to use.

angular cheilitis

Oral cancer is very tough to get rid of. Yeast infections creams (like Nizoral) do the job, but my experience says otherwise. Your doctor may want to try a cortisoneCortisol level cream, or one of the noncortisone anti-
Ulcerative colitis creams like Protopic or Elidel.

You have to be empirical--trial and error--with this pesky condition, which is indeed aggravated by drooling and saliva.

try taking in alot of water see if that helps.if not see a doctor.

The nutritional supplement Lysine may also help.

I hope Lauren R has misspelled 'canker'. Angular cheilitis IS NOT oral cancer!!

It can be caused by many different things e.g. ill ftting dentures, sagging facial muscles (in the elderly usually), vitamin or iron deficiencies, overuse of a dummy/pacifier in small children. Anything that allows the candida fungal infection to flourish in a damp 'fold' at the corner of the mouth.

To cure it you need to either remove the cause or eliminate the ideal environment that keeps the fungus alive: dentures need to be remade to fit properly, vitamin/iron supplements taken if necessary etc

One of the easiest things to try is to keep the area covered in petroleum jelly/Vaseline so the dampness is eliminated and the Candida cannot survive.
If the condition keeps coming back speak to your dentist or doctor about other possible causes.
