The clicking started because the little disc of tissue between the and lower jaw was out of position. There's pressure now because the disc is swelling by being out of position. A nightguard would be helpful. In the meantime, you need to treat it like any other soft tissue injury. Ice, Ibuprofen (as long as you're not allergic) 3 to 4 tablets of advil every 6 to 8 hours, and soft diet for 6 to 8 weeks. It's also helpful to slide your lower jaw forward until the lower teeth are even with the uppers (don't need to be touching). That moves your jaw into a neutral position that helps the disc realign. This should be done many times over the course of the day. No gum, no bagels, no crunchy veggies... think pasta, soft crustless breads, cooked veggies.

you may want to talk to your dentist about it, it sounds like it could be TMJ. i have it too, its uncomfortable :(

Sounds like TMJ

you need to find a specialist in TMJ/TMD, stay away from the ones that want to pull & file down your teeth, put on braces

until then do not chew anything hard or chewey, don't open wide, stay away from caffine
take advil and put heat on jaw joint, neck, jaw area

you might try an over the counter soft mouth guard, but one from the dentist works better

good luck
