Why do you get wisdom teeth pulled out?!

Question:

Why do you get wisdom teeth pulled out?

i went to the dentist a few days ago for a check up and cleaning....and the dentist said i need to get all my wisdom teeth pulled out (i have 2 growing out visibly...my lower jaw and one is pretty much almost done growing out...the other is still growing)....but my wisdom teeth dont hurt at all....i asked him why i need to get them pulled out and he said because one of them is growing crooked? and its harder to clean and can have problems in the future (not just the crooked one...even if the wisdom tooth is growing fine)...but my previous dentist (we changes dentists...i dont know why...my dad made the decision...probably cause this new dentist is cheaper) that i saw last year for a check up and cleaning noticed my wisdom teeth and didnt say anything about that. he just tried poking them to see if they hurt but they dont hurt me at all so he just let me be. is my new dentist trying to take advantage of us? please help!

Answers:

Some people never have to have them out. Unfortunately, 90% of people do.

The reason is widsom teeth grow in at an angle.

They are pointed at your back molars. When these wisdom teeth grow in they push against your molars. Not only does this cause extreme pain, but it begins to crush your molar.

Holes will appear and could possibly get infected. Serious complications can happen if your wisdom teeth push your other teeth too much.

Its not a painful procedure as they drug you up. (I was put to sleep)

After the procedure however there is intese swelling and some very painful cheeks. Be prepared for 5 days of apple sauce and soup =P

Whatever you do, do NOT use a straw! The sucking actions causes your now stiched up holes to be blown open cause massive pain and another trip to the doctors.

Good luck! One they are out you will never have to worry about them again.
