Answers:

You will probably have healed adequately by next Wednesday to keep your appointment. If you are still in a significant amount of pain after a week then make an appointment to see your dentist immediately. If your dentist prescribed anything, take that -- but also take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen or motrin (Tylenol). Keep your head as upright as possible -- if you have to bend down for any reason, bend at the knees so your head doesn't tilt forward. Take out the gauze the dentist put in your mouth after 20 - 30 minutes. Replace it with new gauze if bleeding is still heavy. Once bleeding turns to "oozing", remove gauze and let them heal on their own. Remove excess blood from your mouth by allowing a tissue to soak it up (don't suck, don't spit!). If you find that swallowing is painful after novocaine wears off, consider keeping something absorbant such as gauze or tissue in your mouth (but not over the wounds) for the first few hours. Also, skip your normal exercise routine the first day, if you have one, to minimize blood flow. You need stability blood to coagulate. The faster that happens, the faster you heal.

If you smoke -- drop it for at least 48 hours. Contaminating the wounds with smoke will delay healing.

The second day you can start eating -- soft foods like mashed potatoes, applesauce, ice cream, but keep out of food with small pieces such as rice, as it could still easily become trapped in the wound before it closes all the way and, voila! -- instant infection.

Ice is good advice. Since you got all 4 out at once, take two icepacks, one for each side of the face. During your first day, ice on/off every twenty minutes until you go to sleep. Its annoying but it will really help the swelling.

Don't forget the warm tea bags! Especially useful if the bleeding just doesn't want to go down.

Soon--you'll feel fine. Good luck!
