Do braces fix all overbites?!

Question: Do braces always fix overbites? I've had braces a while now and I dont see any improvements. But my braces will be on for another 8-10 months. Do you think anything will change?

Your teeth will shift a lot more during the next few months but be aware that unfortunately braces don't fix all overbites. It depends on whether it is just a tooth problem or if it is a problem with the jaw and it's misalignment or overgrowth. I wore braces as a teen for 2 and a half years due to an overbite. It straightened my teeth but I did not have the results I desired. Now, many years later, I have been wearing braces 17 months now and scheduled for jaw surgery this coming spring. This is due to the fact that it was the jaw that was misaligned. No one, not even the orthodontist told me that it was a jaw problem when I was a teen. Now it is causing functional problems as I've gotten older. If you are unable to close your mouth comfortably, that is a good sign that the jaw may be the problem. If you are unhappy with your results, please talk to your orthodontist about it and schedule an appt. with an oral/maxillofacial surgeon......remember you are paying for orthodontic treatment and you should be happy with the results. Good luck!

I'm not sure about ALL overbites, but if you still have your braces for 8-10 more months, you should notice some improvements.

I had braces for 4 years and I used to get picked on and was called "beaver teeth" because my over bite was outrageous. My teeth are straight but my front teeth still go way over the bottoms. My orthodontist told me in order to fix the overbite i would have to get my jaw relocated. I hope yours isn't as bad as mine. But on a great note i had my teeth filed in the front to make the appearance of smaller teeth. GOOD LUCK

nope. i went through 4 years of wearing a bite plate,
2 years with train tracks and a further year with a retainer and i still have an overbite

it depends on how bad your overbite is, if you have deep overbite, it could probably still show improvement,i had deep overbite and it corrected it. everyone is always still supposed to have at least a little bit of overbite when they are done with treatment, you dont want your teeth to connect exactly on top of each other, that grinds your teeth together. so everyone is meant to have a bit overbite. but if you do have a massive overbite. you may need to get your jaw relocated.

Within in those months, the ortho should give you rubber bands which change the appearance of your overbite A LOT!
