My friend was playing basketball and she got elbowed in her front tooth and now !


Question: Hey all, my friend said she was playing basketball and she got elbowed in the mouth. Her upper front left tooth was the one to receive the blow. Well she said she had major pain and it was really loose. Shes been drinking milk and says its getting better. But the upsetting thing for her is that it becoming discolored for some reason. She hasn't gone to the dentist though. What could be the problem and how can it be solved?

The discoloration is because the blow to the tooth caused Hemorrhage in the pulp chamber. Most always this causes death of the pulp and will lead to Root Canal Therapy. After successful treatment, the color can be restored by removing all of the root canal filling and cement from the coronal portion of the tooth and bleaching. Then fill with a matching composite filling material.

Nerve of tooth is probably dying off, thus the discoloration. Will probably need root therapy. Have her get it evaluated at the dentists.

It is called a "dead tooth" I think. Pretty common.
