Orthodontist wants to file my teeth?!
Question: My orthodontist is going on maternity leave and explained to me that my new orthodontist may have to file my teeth? She didn't explain what this was. Can someone tell me?
I've had braces since September 1st, 2006, but I had my current orthodontist fix them in late September 2007 after my old orthodontist was fired for messing up people's braces. Is filing down the teeth a final step?

yes, i have braces and they said they would file my teeth too. its the final step to even out all your teeth so if you have jagged teeth or one front tooth is bigger than the other they use a spinny (spin, not spine) disk thingy to file down your teeth, it doesnt hurt it just feels kinda vibrate -y trust me it'll make you teeth look way better!!

Basically, its how it sounds. They take a file and file down the teeth.
They do this to cure minor problems with teeth - say that one of my two front teeth is ever so slightly lower than the other. They'll file that tooth down instead of trying to bring it down with the braces.
Its usually near the end, so yeah, its a final step.
They will sometimes file your teeth to make room to push back your teeth. I had mine filed and they look great now!
