Do the Damon System braces hurt while getting them on?!

Question: I am getting braces on in a couple of days and am really nervous. I am getting the Damon System braces on though. I've heard these are less painful. Is this true? As you can tell, I worry about pain a lot. (blood test, needles, braces)

Thanx

I had Damon system braces. All braces hurt, but the Damon system braces are more gentle because the wires are held in place with a "sliding" mechanism. See more at http://www.damonbraces.com/q02.php

Braces are generally adjusted or tightened at monthly visits. Braces hurt because with each tightening, the root system of the teeth are "broken", allowing the teeth to move into the proper alignment. The teeth become loose and the area around the root becomes inflamed for 2-3 days, then the inflammation resolves and the gums tighten around the root again. At least until the next tightening.

To decrease the immediate discomfort of the monthly tightening, you may want to consider taking ibuprofen (Motrin) or naproxen sodium (Aleve) 30 minutes before each tightening. (Tylenol won't work; it isn't an anti-inflammatory).

Ask your orthodontist about dental wax. These are strips which are held under warm water and applied to the brackets to prevent them from rubbing the inside of your mouth. They look stupid, but until your mouth toughens, the brackets will literally lacerate the insides of your cheeks.

Invest in a Water-Pik http://www.waterpik.com/oral-health-prod... These keep your braces clean and your mouth fresh.

Gum Butler Go-Betweens Cleaners http://dentaldepot.com/images/gobetweens... are a big help in keeping your braces clean without flossing. They look like little pipe cleaners.

Most orthodontists will give you samples of the above products, and other products, to help you care for your braces.

I had Damon system braces, at age 42, for 2 years. I can recommend the Damon system to anyone.

Soory I would like to help you with this..but I have never heard of these types of braces. Good luck.
