Post root canal gum pains?!

Question: Last week, I had excruciating pain in my lower left jaw. It eventually traveled up to my temple and I felt like I was having a migraine. I went to the dentist and they said that I need a root canal. To help my pain while I wait for my appointment, they opened up my tooth to take out some of the damaged nerve tissue inside the tooth canals. After that dentist appointment, my gums started to hurt really bad. From my back left molar all the way to my left front side. I finally when through the first step of getting my root canal yesterday. I thought my gum pain would go away, but it hasn't. Is this normal? I'm already taking antibiotics and pain medication and nothing is helping completely. Half of the pain goes away after taking some medication, but not everything goes away. My gums still hurt. What should I do?

Keep taking the pain medication. Rinsing with salt water helps make sure the water is warm though. You can also try putting a warm compress on the side where you had the root canal.

Make sure you do not use a straw until the root canal is completely healed.

Good luck

Give it some time and keep taking the pain medication.

Try rinsing your mouth out with salt water then apply numbing jel.
