First off, getting abs is easy. Second, getting them to show is the difficult part.

Don't bother working your abs out more than one day a week. That's not where you'll have problems.
More than likely you have fat covering your stomach. So you need to get rid of this fat in order to get your abs to show. How much you have will dictate how much you need to work but expect to do a lot of cardio. Also you'll need to change your diet. Drop the beer, soda, junk food. Start eating 4-6 smaller healthy meals rather than 3 normal meals.
